February is Spay Neuter Awareness Month (aka Beat the Heat Month)

February is National Pet Dental Care month

Spaying and neutering is one of the most important and responsible choices pet owners can make for their dogs and cats. These procedures help prevent unwanted litters, reducing pet overpopulation and decreasing the number of animals that end up in shelters or rescues.

Beyond population control, spaying and neutering offers major health benefits—spaying female dogs and cats eliminates the risk of life-threatening uterine infections (pyometra) and greatly reduces the risk of mammary (breast) cancer, especially when done before the first heat cycle. Neutering male dogs and cats prevents testicular cancer and can reduce the risk of prostate issues later in life. It can also lessen hormone-driven behaviors such as roaming, urine marking, mounting, and fighting, which helps keep pets safer by reducing the chance of getting lost, injured, or exposed to diseases through mating and territorial conflicts. For cats, neutering and spaying also helps reduce yowling, spraying, and the urge to escape outdoors.

Most importantly, spay and neuter supports a longer, healthier, and often calmer life for pets—and helps families and communities by promoting safer, healthier pet populations. If you have questions about when to schedule your pet’s spay/neuter or what to expect during recovery, your veterinary team is always happy to help!

The staff is caring and professional. Our cat Jack was in for his rabies vaccination a his yearly check up. It was his first visit to this vet since we moved from Illinois. They made him welcome and let him acclimate to the surroundings at his own pace. They did not rush. We will definitely be back.
